Birmingham-Area Schools Delay Opening Due To Weather

Several local schools in the Birmingham metro have delayed openings Thursday due to severe thunderstorms and flash flooding in the area.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Heavy storms throughout the night have caused some flooding, slick roads and even some power outages in the Birmingham metro, and this has prompted many area schools to delay opening Thursday.

The following schools are closed Thursday or delayed:

  • Alabaster City Schools - Delayed until 10:30 a.m.
  • Alabama School Of Fine Arts - Delayed 2 hours
  • Bessemer Academy - Delayed 2 hours
  • Bessemer City Schools - Delayed 2 hours
  • Birmingham City Schools - Delayed 2 hours
  • Blount County Schools - 3 hour delay
  • Evangel Christian Academy - Delayed 2 hours
  • Highland School - Opening at 10 a.m.
  • Homewood City Schools - Open at 10:20 a.m.
  • Hoover City Schools- Delayed by two hours
  • Indian Springs School - Delayed 2 hours
  • Jefferson County Schools –Two-hour delay
  • Midfield City Schools - Open 10 a.m.
  • Mountain Brook Schools: Delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Pelham City Schools- Delayed 2 hours
  • Pell City – Schools delayed until 9:45 a.m
  • Shelby County Schools - Delayed until 10 a.m
  • St. Clair County Schools - Delayed 2 hours
  • Trussville City Schools - Delayed until 10 a.m.
  • Vestavia City Schools- Delayed 3 hours
