Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Jefferson County

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Jefferson County through the afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Jefferson County Friday, effective through the afternoon. The NWS said the cluster of storms could knock down trees and produce some hail.

Radar has indicted winds of up to 60 mph, with hail damage and wind damage expected. The NWS recommended moving indoors immediately.

Locations impacted by the warning include Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Hueytown, Gardendale, Irondale Pinson, Tarrant and Moody, among other metro communities.

The NWS also said cloud-to-ground lightning could accompany this storm system.

The warning is expected to expire at 3:30 p.m.
