Hail, Damaging Winds Possible In Birmingham Metro

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Large hail and damaging winds of up to 60 miles per hour are possible in central Alabama on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS said there is a marginal risk of severe weather. Forecasters say the strongest storms are expected as early as noon on Thursday and may continue until 11 p.m.

Starting around Friday afternoon, forecasters are warning that the heat index could be as high as 105 degrees. A heat index of between 100 and 105 degrees is possible starting Friday afternoon through Sunday.

The NWS says it could exceed 105 degrees in some areas.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light southwest in the evening.

Friday

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 105. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the morning.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly clear, with a low around 74. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
