While Central Alabama will see rain most of the day, the most severe weather is expected to hit from Montgomery southward. However, tornadoes are possible throughout the state, according to the NWS.

"The further north you go, the less surface-based instability is present, so expect the tornado threat to be much lower with damaging winds being the main threat," the NWS report said. "Depending on the speed of this system, the storms could be out of our area by mid- afternoon, which some high-resolution models suggest. The main cold front still remains to our west in the afternoon and pushes through Central AL Thursday evening into the overnight hours."
