Sheriff’s Investigation Leads To Arrest Of Suspected Drug Dealer

Jefferson County Sheriff's investigators arrested 26 year old James Leanard Matthews for allegedly dealing drugs in the Pratt City area.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 26-year-old man has been arrested on charges of selling drugs in Pratt City. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrested James Leanard Matthews May 15 after investigators found Matthews in possession of drugs and weapons.

Sheriff’s Investigators tracked and located Matthews near the 100 block of Avenue Z and found him to be in possession of 16.9 grams of heroin, 17.9 grams of methamphetamines, a Glock pistol and a AR15 rifle.

Matthews is being held for trafficking heroin with a bond set at $30,000, possession with intent to sell methamphetamines ($20,000 bond), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (bond set at $300) and carrying a pistol without a license ($300 bond).
