Sheriff’s Office Giving Out Free Gun Locks For Project Child Safe

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced it will give away free gun locks to citizens this Thursday as part of Project Child Safe.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Sheriff Mike Hale of Jefferson County announced his office will participate in Project Child Safe, which involves giving away free cable gun locks to residents Thursday in an effort to keep guns more secure in the home.

Hale, who has been an outspoken supporter of the Second Amendment, said, “I believe that honest, law abiding citizens should be afforded the same opportunity to protect themselves and their families that I have been over my law enforcement career."

Hale added that part of being a responsible gun owner is securing your weapons against unauthorized access when they are not in use. "Properly securing firearms when not in use is the number one way to help prevent accidents, theft, and misuse," he said.
