Sheriff's Investigators Seize More Than A Kilogram Of Heroin

Jefferson County Sheriff's Narcotics Investigators seized 10,000 doses of heroin and 224 grams of methamphetamine from a home in Bessemer.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Jefferson County Sheriff's Narcotics Investigators seized 10,000 doses of heroin and 224 grams of methamphetamine from a home in Bessemer July 17.

As part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of heroin in western Jefferson County, narcotics investigators developed information that a large amount of heroin was being held at a home in the 1800 block of 11th Street North in Bessemer. They established surveillance on the house and witnessed the target, 38-year-old Christopher Moton, driving away. He was stopped on a traffic stop a short distance away.
During the stop, Moton was found to be in possession of a handgun. A prior felony conviction prohibits him from possessing a firearm, and he was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

Investigators returned to the home and conducted a search and discovered heroin and methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $218,000. "A typical dose unit of heroin is .1 grams. This seizure is the equivalent of 10,000 dose units of heroin taken off the streets of Jefferson County," said a statement by the Sheriff's Office.

Moton has been charged with Trafficking Heroin, Trafficking Methamphetamine, Certain Person Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without License, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $2,018,000.
