Sheriff's Office Investigates Dog Fighting In Mulga
An investigation into a suspected dog fighting ring has resulted in one arrest by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - One suspect has been arrested and charged with dog fighting in Jefferson County. At approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies received a complaint of dogs fighting in the Mulga area, and when they arrived, deputies proceeded towards the location and were met by a juvenile carrying an injured dog.
Once at the location of the dogs fighting, deputies discovered 17 pit bulls, 4 of which had injuries consistent with dog fighting. There was also a ring with fresh blood inside. Approximately 11 dog skulls have been found.

Reginald Antonio Dowdell, 42, was taken into custody Sunday. Sheriff's detectives are working to obtain a warrant against Dowdell Monday afternoon, and could seek additional charges on Tuesday.
Animal control was on the scene with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and took custody of the dogs. The investigation is ongoing.
