Shooting On 7th Avenue South Sparks Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department responded to a report of a man hit by a car, but discovered he had been shot.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Responding to a report on 7th Avenue South Wednesday morning of a white male lying in the road - possibly a victim of a hit and run - the Birmingham Police Department discovered a man had been shot to death.
Officers from the South Precinct had earlier observed a vehicle driving down 7th Avenue South near the 2700 block with the headlights off. The south unit attempted to stop the vehicle, and the driver refused to stop. While attempting to elude, the vehicle wrecked in the 3200 block of Highland Drive and the driver attempted to flee on foot. The male was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
It was determined that the male lying in the roadway had not been struck by a car but had just been shot by the suspect that attempted to flee from south officers. The suspect was taken to police headquarters to be interviewed and admitted to shooting the victim. The suspect alleged that the victim had made sexual advances towards him prior to shooting him. The suspect shot the victim and then left the scene in the victim’s car, and that is when south units observed the vehicle driving with no headlights on.
