Shooting In East Birmingham Leaves 1 Victim Dead, 1 Injured

Birmingham police detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after a shooting on 39th Court North Sunday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police are investing a homicide after a shooting in East Birmingham led to one victim's death and another victim sent to a local hospital with injuries. The incident occurred Sunday just after 10:30 p.m. at 3838 39th Court North.

Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Department said officers arrived on the scene to find one victim unresponsive with gunshot wounds, while another person had been transported to UAB Hospital via private vehicle.

The unresponsive victim, whose identity has not been released, was also taken to UAB and pronounced dead upon arrival. The other victim is expected to recover.

This is the first homicide in Birmingham in 2020. No suspects are in custody as of Monday morning.
