Shooting At Tuscaloosa County Business Leaves 1 Dead

One victim has been confirmed dead after a shooting at a Tuscaloosa County industrial plant.

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL — One victim has been confirmed dead after a shooting at a Tuscaloosa County industrial plant. The incident occurred Sunday night at Lear Corporation.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Commander Lt. Jack Kennedy said in a WVTM report that one person was killed in the shooting and that the situation is contained. He said a suspect is in custody.

Angela Nichole Mayo, 28, turned herself in for the fatal shooting. Mayo has been charged with one count of murder and is being held at Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

Lear Corporation released the following statement:

"We can confirm that one of our employees, Shanina Smith, was fatally shot at our Tuscaloosa plant on Sunday evening and that local authorities have a suspect in custody.

"We have been in contact with Shanina’s family and our hearts and prayers are with them on this truly tragic day. Additionally, we have engaged professional grief counselors who are now onsite and will remain as long as it takes to provide services to any employees who are in need.

"At this time, we have no further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are fully cooperating with authorities. We ask that any further questions be directed to local law enforcement conducting the investigation."
