Southside Storytellers Festival Coming To Five Points South

Five Points South will host the inaugural Southside Storytellers Festival October 28 from 2-6 p.m.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - This Saturday, the Five Points South area of Birmingham will host the inaugural Southside Storyteller Festival. The event, hosted by The Five Points Alliance, The J. Clyde and Orbit Salon is celebrating 130 years of the Five Points Birmingham District. The festival celebration revolves around the Storyteller Fountain created by Frank Fleming in the Heart of Five Points South with the stage located at Highlands United Methodist Church.

Some of the features of the event include the Arova Contemporary Ballet, street performers and live music. The festival will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. and includes spoken word performances and stories from Real Life Poets, Inc., The Sister City Connection Spoken Word Collective, Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop for High School Students, UAB, Green Bucket Press and Nitty Gritty Magic City Reading Series. As well, the "Five Points Star" singer/songwriter competition will be an online and day of the festival competition with the various Birmingham artists playing their artistic creations during the event at open mics throughout Southside's restaurants and bars.

Also, a special Storyteller Brew will be served at various venues and you can receive an extra vote in the #FivePointsStar for every purchase of the J Clyde Southside brew.
