Spike In New Coronavirus Cases In Alabama, Jefferson County
Alabama reported nearly 1,000 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, as Jefferson County added 133 of those.
MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed nearly 1,000 new cases of the virus Thursday, almost as many as were reported in the previous two days combined.
The state reported 981 new COVID-19 cases, and 14 deaths overnight. Total, Alabama has confirmed 133,433 cases of the virus, with an additional 14,773 probable cases, meaning those cases reported through antibody testing. The ADPH says 64,583 people are presumed to have recovered from the virus.
In the last two weeks, the state has confirmed 9,587 cases, up from this time last week, when the state's 14-day total was less than 9,000.

Jefferson County added the most new cases Thursday, reporting 133 cases. Spikes were also seen in Calhoun and Tuscaloosa counties.

- Tuscaloosa County: 67 new cases; 6,092 total
- Calhoun County: 64 new cases; 3,116 total
- Shelby County: 62 new cases; 5,116 total
- Etowah County: 48 new cases; 3,047 total
