Stabbing Victim Dies, Homicide Investigation Underway

A man injured in a fight Feb. 29 died over the weekend, prompting a homicide investigation by Birmingham police.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man who was stabbed in a fight a week ago has died, prompting a homicide investigation by the Birmingham Police Department. The incident occurred Feb. 29 at 2nd Ave North and 13th Street.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers found the victim suffering from stab wounds and has the man transported to UAB Hospital. Mauldin said the victim, whose name has not been released, died over the weekend from his injuries.

"Based off Information gathered during the preliminary investigation, detectives have classified the incident as a homicide," Mauldin said.

There are no suspects in custody. Anyone who has information pertaining to this homicide is asked to contact the BPD Robbery/Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764.
