Starbucks in 5 Points South Closes

A longtime tenant in the 5 Points South district, Starbucks has now closed its Southside location.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A longtime tenant in Birmingham's 5 Points South retail neighborhood has closed its doors. The Starbucks on the popular 5 Points corner is closed, but there has been no word from Starbucks corporate office as to why the store is closing.

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, closed its location at 1927 11th Avenue South on Oct. 1. Although a bevy of businesses have left the area in recent months - McNolia's Cards and Gifts, Fuego Mexican Cantina, Cosmo's Pizza and Bailey Brothers Music, the retail district is still seeing growth. A new Homewood Suites recently opened on 20th Street, while Hotel Highland is being renovated into a Hotel Indigo. As well, plans have been discussed for more housing and hotel options.
