Students Show Up For High School, Get Sent Back To Middle School
A dozen students showed up for their first day of high school in Bessemer only to be sent back to middle school.

BESSEMER, AL - The first day of high school for a dozen students in Bessemer turned into another day at middle school, due to missing grades for the students. Students at Bessemer City High School were sent back down to middle school last week after the administration was unable to find evidence of the students passing eighth grade.
A report by WVTM in Birmingham said the students had been enrolled in a program at Bessemer City Middle School meant to help students who failed a grade, catch up and graduate.

Superintendent Dr. Keith A. Stewart said in a letter there was no record of those students passing the eighth-grade classes. Stewart said "he had no choice but to hold them back" because the school couldn't produce the needed grades for them.
