Suspect Arrested In Burglary Of Area High School

A man was arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies in connection with the burglary of Farfield High School.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man in connection with the burglary of Fairfield High School Monday. Rodriques Speed, 26, of Birmingham was arrested early Monday morning and charged with multiple offenses.

Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies reported to the scene just after midnight and saw Speed leaving the school building. Agee said deputies chased Speed, and with the aid of Star 1 helicopters were able to locate him under the bleachers of the football field.

While Speed was being escorted to a patrol vehicle, he reportedly broke free and made a second attempt to get away, Agee said. Deputies were able to recapture him, and discovered he had six outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Deputies checked the school for additional offenders and verified that there were items missing as well as three broken windows.

Speed was arrested for the outstanding warrants and charged with five felony failure to appear warrants, one misdemeanor failure to appear warrant, burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, using a false identity and escape.

Speed is being held without bond.
