Suspect In Custody After Shots Fired In Gate City

A man suspected of firing on Birmingham police officers was taken into custody after a manhunt that lasted more than an hour.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man is in Birmingham PD custody after a nearly hour-long manhunt following reports of shots fired at police officers in Gate City. The incident began shortly before 11 p.m Saturday.

According to a report by the Birmingham PD, officers responded to Georgia Road and the unidentified suspect then reportedly fired at the officers. No officers were injured. The suspect fled, and what followed was nearly an hour of pursuit by Birmingham police, aided by law enforcement officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Homewood PD.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody at 12:30 a.m. Sunday after being found in a wooded area close to the 7900 block of Georgia Road.
