Suspect Fires Shots At Birmingham Police Officer During Pursuit

A fleeing suspect fired shots at Birmingham Police officer during a pursuit after a traffic stop Tuesday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Birmingham Police officer was shot by a suspect during a pursuit after a traffic stop Tuesday night.

According to a report by Alabama Media Group, the officer stopped a car for an expired tag at Delta Street and Sixth Avenue South. A check on the tag came back as stolen, and the driver of the car left the scene during the check, prompting a pursuit.

Reports say shots were fired from the fleeing vehicle, but neither the officer nor the police vehicle were hit. Officers later recovered the suspect vehicle in the 400 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue.

Police said they are still searching for the three suspects.
