Suspect In South Birmingham Homicide Arrested

A man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in a Jan. 6 homicide.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A suspect in the Jan. 6 shooting death of 34-year-old Douglas Paige has been arrested. Corderious Scroggins, 25, was apprehended in the Kingston Housing Community Wednesday.

The shooting occurred just after 11 a.m. Jan. 6 Officers found Paige in a car with gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene to render treatment, but Paige was pronounced deceased prior to being transported to the hospital.

Investigators with the Birmingham Police Department said information led them to believe that Paige was involved in a physical altercation with three subjects before he was able to make his way to his car. Investigators found that Scroggins fired into the victim’s vehicle before he could drive away.

Scroggins is charged with capital murder and is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
