Teen Charged In Deadly Birmingham Shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL—Birmingham police have arrested a Cottondale teen in connection with a recent shooting that left one man dead. Alexander West, 19, is charged with the murder of Marcus Wilson, 22, of Birmingham.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers responded to 216 71st St. North on March 10 in reference to shots fired nearby. Once on scene, police discovered Wilson in the rear of 130 71st St. North suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Wilson was rushed to UAB Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

While police have not released a motive for the shooting, they said a preliminary investigation shows that prior to the crime, Wilson was walking when an unknown person in a dark-colored car approached him. An exchange of words took place with the person inside the car, who ultimately opened fire on the victim.

Police did not say what led them to West, the suspect identified in the case.

According to police, this is Birmingham's 17th homicide investigation of 2020.
