Thunderstorms, Flooding Forecast For Jefferson County Tonight

The National Weather Service issued a statement warning of severe thunderstorms and flooding in parts of central Alabama.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — What may sound like old news in the Birmingham area is actually another recent warning of severe weather heading into Jefferson County. The National Weather Service in Birmingham said severe thunderstorms may sweep through parts of central Alabama Wednesday night, bringing some flooding along as well.

"Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible for the western two thirds of Central Alabama until 7 p.m.," the NWS report said. "The primary threats include damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail up to half-dollar size."

The NWS also said minor flooding will continue along portions of the Tombigbee and Black Warrior Rivers into Thursday.
