Tornado Watch in Effect in most of North and Central Alabama Thursday

A tornado watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for most of north and central parts of Alabama until 8 p.m.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Effects from Hurricane Harvey have prompted the National Weather Service in Birmingham to issue a tornado warning for parts of north and central Alabama Thursday. The watch is in effect until 8:00 tonight.

The report from the NWS states that brief tornadoes will be possible statewide, along with heavy rain and damaging winds. The report also said the most unstable air will be over west Alabama in the short-term, and the NWS will be watching to see if the atmosphere over central and southern Alabama becomes more favorable for tornadoes through the afternoon. The report also indicated that two to three inches of rain are possible, which could lead to minor flooding, especially in northwest Alabama.
