Truck Driver Shot During Robbery Attempt Near ACIPCO Plant

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A truck driver waiting to enter the gates of the Birmingham American Cast Iron Pipe Company plant was shot during an apparent robbery attempt. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. Friday.

Birmingham police and firefighters were dispatched at 3:54 a.m. to 1501 31st Avenue North on the shooting call, according to an Alabama Media Group report. Once on the scene, they found a white male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim told police he was outside of his truck waiting to enter the ACIPCO plant when he was approached by at least two black males in a vehicle who reportedly tried to rob him.

The victim was shot while trying to get back into his vehicle, according to reports. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene and no arrests have been made.
