Two Homicides Reported In Birmingham Thursday Night

Two men were killed in separate homicides Thursday night, bringing the total homicides in Birmingham in 2019 to 42.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Police Department worked two homicide cases Thursday night, the 41st and 42nd homicides in Birmingham for 2019. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims Eric Alexander Gunn Jr., 23, and Sanquez Derico Recarlos Morgan, 20. Both were from Birmingham.

Gunn was found dead about 8:40 p.m. Thursday when Birmingham police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a person shot at Village Market in the 7700 block of Second Avenue South, according to an Alabama Media Group report.

Less than two hours later, Morgan was shot near the corner of 41st Street and Fifth Court North. He was taken to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 10:50 p.m.

No additional details or arrests have been announced in either case.
