BIRMINGHAM, AL - Two women were wounded Monday in a shooting in Birmingham's Gate City community. One of the victims sustained serious injuries.

The gunfire erupted about 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Marks Village public housing community. An Alabama Media Group report said a woman was sitting inside a vehicle on Kimberly Avenue when an SUV drove by an opened fire.

One woman was driven by private vehicle to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center where she is listed in serious condition. A second woman, 18, told police she was grazed by a bullet while she was in the shower at her home. However, police later learned the teen had been outside when she was shot and then went home to clean up before telling her mother about the wound.
