UAB's Claire Mowling Named State Association’s Educator Of The Year

The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Claire Mowling, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Education, has been awarded College/University Educator of the Year by the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Mowling has been instructing prospective physical education teachers at UAB since 2015 and has worked to create authentic experiences for her students.

She is a reviewer for several national professional journals and served on the regional and national boards for the Shape America National Convention Program Review Committee. Mowling also runs an after-school program at Avondale Elementary School called “Move It.”

ASAHPERD offers recognition of its outstanding members outside the profession for their contributions and achievements. Its mission is to promote and support healthy lifestyles for Alabama residents through high-quality programs in health and recreation.
