UAB's Dr. Kirksey Named To ABPMR Physician Board of Directors

The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Keneshia McMullen Kirksey, M.D., director of the Residency Program and professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, has been selected to serve on the Physician Board of Directors for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Among her many honors, Kirksey has received the UAB Health System’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award; was nominated for the UAB School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence Award in Service, Senior Faculty; and twice received the Laura B. Kezar, M.D., Award for Dedication and Commitment to Residency Program.

“Something I am most proud of is the mentorship that I have provided, not only across UAB with our residents and junior faculty, but also within the community,” Kirksey said. “I’m a huge advocate for reaching out and giving back — I come from rural Alabama, and so giving back and mentoring high schoolers and undergraduates is so valuable to me.”

She is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, and the UAB African American Faculty Association and Dean’s Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The ABPMR Board of Directors serve up to two five-year terms, and Kirksey will begin her first term in August 2021.
