On Aug. 17, the University of Alabama at Birmingham will host two events for UAB faculty and staff: an interactive town hall regarding the upcoming fall semester and an employee appreciation event on the Campus Green hosted in recognition of UAB’s recent “Best Employer” designations by Forbes.

UAB President Ray L. Watts and Provost Pam Benoit, along with other key university leaders and subject matter experts, will provide the latest updates and answer questions related to UAB’s vaccination efforts and operational plans, updates on remote work, and information about the Delta variant of the novel coronavirus.

The event, hosted by UAB leadership and Staff Council, is an opportunity for UAB employees to unite together to celebrate each other as well as UAB’s rankings by Forbes as America’s No. 1 Best Large Employer 2021 and No. 1 Best Employer for diversity among colleges and universities.

“Our recent No. 1 rankings in Forbes reflect the UAB community’s deep sense of pride in the record-breaking strides we are making together as well as the nationally recognized diversity of our campus,” Watts said. “We are excited about celebrating these shared accomplishments and showing our Blazer pride at the UAB employee appreciation event.” 

Town hall

The town hall will run from 10-11 a.m. in the University Hall Auditorium, with both in-person and virtual components. There is capacity for 150 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis via pre-registration, and masks must be worn by those in attendance. Those joining virtually will be able to join via YouTube web stream by registering here.

Faculty and staff attending virtually can pre-submit questions to be asked here by Friday, Aug. 13. Leadership will also answer questions live by attendees.

Immediately following the town hall, faculty and staff are invited to the Campus Green from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. to enjoy food, live music and “America’s Best Employer” giveaways, while supplies last. 

Contingency plans are in place regarding weather and/or health concerns for both the in-person town hall and UAB employee appreciation event and will be activated if significant risk is identified.
