USF Reports Abysmal Birmingham Bowl Ticket Sales
The University of South Florida football team apparently won't have much of a fan base for the Birmingham Bowl, based on ticket sales.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - If ticket sale reports are any indication, the University of South Florida Bulls will not have much fan support when they come to Birmingham for their game against Texas Tech in the Birmingham Bowl December 23. According to a post on Twitter by Tampa reporter Joey Knight, USF has only sold 1,059 of its 10,000-ticket allotment for the game.
#USF announces it has sold 1,059 of its 10,000 allotted @Birmingham_Bowl tickets (school sold 1,648 last year). More than 4,500 of this year's tix have been donated back to bowl (for charity groups). Another 300 distributed to veterans.

Some have said the game's proximity to Christmas will keep fans from traveling, while others point to the lack of prestige the bowl game carries since now more than 80 teams play in bowl games, unlike the 80s and 90s, when a bowl game was considered a welcome reward for a good season.
Thus far, no report on Texas Tech ticket sales has been released.
