Victim Of Deadly Shooting In East Birmingham Identified
A man was shot and killed on 72nd Street North early Sunday morning. No suspects are in custody.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning on 72nd Street North has been identified as 59-year-old Melvin Nelson. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the department's 911 Communication Division received a Shot Spotter call of one round fired in the 300 block of 72nd Street North, and East Precinct officers found Nelson dead on the scene when they arrived.
Nelson is the city's 72nd homicide victim of 2020. Of those 72 homicides, 14 have been ruled justifiable.
