Vigil For Kamille McKinney Scheduled At Linn Park
Kamille McKinney's kidnapping affected the entire metro area. People can pay tribute to the 3-year-old Wednesday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — When the news hit Tuesday night that police had found what they believe are the remains of 3-year-old Kamille McKinney, the hopes of an entire community were dashed, and thousands of people began mourning the untimely death of the young girl.

The City of Birmingham has scheduled a vigil for Kamille to pay tribute and to begin the healing process after the tragedy. A vigil for Kamille will be held at Linn Park at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

City and state leaders have expressed their sorrow over the news Tuesday night, joining those who knew Kamille and her family in their grief.
"Tonight, Birmingham, we mourn as one," said Mayor Randall Woodfin Tuesday evening. "Uplift this family. Uplift your own families. Hold your loved ones a little tighter. And to the family of Kamille, know that your pain, your anger, and your many questions will not be ignored. Your cries for help will not go unanswered."

"Tonight, I join all of Alabama in feeling deep sadness over the passing of little Kamille 'Cupcake' McKinney, and in praying for her family in this terrible time of loss," said Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. "The BPD has worked this case tirelessly—and continues to do so. Those responsible will be brought to justice."
Two suspects are in custody and are expected to be charged with murder and kidnapping when warrants are issued Wednesday.
