Warming Station Set Up For Cold Weekend In Birmingham
Mayor Randall Woodfin said the city will set up a warming station for people who may not be able to keep warm during an expected cold snap.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Cold temperatures expected this weekend - some days dropping below freezing - have prompted new Birmingham mayor Randall Woodfin to open a warming station for citizens who may be without heat Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Unlike in years past, Boutwell Auditorium will not be a warming station. However, the city has confirmed it will set up a station at the South Meeting Hall in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The station is open Thursday, December 7 until Sunday morning, December 10, from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. The warming station is not just for our homeless citizens. It is for anyone in Birmingham neighborhoods who do not have heat.
One Roof will be running two vehicles Thursday night until at least 11pm and at least one vehicle Friday and Saturday nights to try to convince any people they find on the streets to accept the hospitality of the Warming Station. The Street Outreach phone number is 205-920-1895.
