Details: Since the Birmingham Public Library’s popular spoken word poetry-craft beer event is unable to be held on site due to the coronavirus pandemic, BPL is hosting its third online version on its Bards & Brews Facebook page at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5.

Have a talent for spoken word poetry but nervous about performing in front of live audiences?

Then take advantage of the Birmingham Public Library’s Bards & Brews Virtual, an online version of a popular monthly spoken word poetry/craft beer event celebrating its 10th year.

On Friday, June 5, at 6:00 p.m., fans will be able to watch some of metro Birmingham’s most talented poets online – as well as newbies - on the Bards & Brews Facebook page.

Poets, if you want to participate, the deadline to register is Monday, June 1. Email Candice.Hardy@cobpl.org to register.

June will be the third straight month that BPL is hosting a virtual Bards & Brews online. BPL held its first ever virtual Bards & Brews on April 3.

Bards & Brews veteran poet Voice Porter is emceeing the online event. BPL’s Bards & Brews Facebook page will be broadcasting the spoken word poetry virtually through the web conferencing site Zoom.

Over the past decade, Bards & Brews has built a reputation as a unifying event for Birmingham's spoken word poetry and craft beer community. It is normally held monthly at library locations, entertainment and craft beer venues across metro Birmingham, but has moved online due to social distancing orders in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are encouraging the public to tune in through our Bards & Brews Facebook page,” said Candice Hardy, BPL Outreach Librarian and project manager over Bards & Brews.

Although Bards & Brews Virtual will be absent the free craft beer samples popular among attendees, BPL Bards committee member and poet Lee Green is hoping viewers will support local craft breweries that offer curbside service by ordering carryout to take home.
