Water Main Break Causes Road Closures Near UAB
A broken water main and subsequent icy roads have cause a couple of closures near the UAB campus.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - One of the busiest streets in downtown Birmingham has been closed since early Thursday morning. Multiple water mains broke broke around 20th Street South and University Blvd. on the UAB campus, and the freezing temperatures caused the subsequent water on the streets to freeze. As a result, the DoubleTree Hotel, the Residence Inn and UAB administrative buildings are currently without water.
A report from WIAT said Birmingham Water Works Board officials do not expect the water to be back on for several more hours. The UAB hospital has not been affected, according to the report.
University Boulevard will be closed to 7th Avenue South and from 19th to 21st Streets South until Thursday night. Service is expected to be restored by 4 p.m.
