Weather Advisory Issued For Jefferson And Shelby Counties

Strong thunderstorms and winds over 40 mph are expected for the Birmingham metro.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for northeast Shelby, central Jefferson and southwestern St. Clair counties. As of 3:15 p.m., radar was tracking a heavy storm near Irondale and Lake Purdy.

This storm is expected to include high winds, in excess of 40 mph.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and the NWS says it may lead to flooding. As well, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is evident with this storm.
