Wells Fargo Robbery Suspect Arrested

A suspect in the robbery of the Wells Fargo branch at 316 18th Street South has been arrested by Birmingham police.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A suspect in the robbery of a Wells Fargo bank branch at 316 18th Street South has been taken into custody by the Bessemer Police Department. The robbery occurred at approximately 9:09 a.m. on Friday, September 6.

The suspect presented a note demanding money from the clerk, and reportedly also verbally threatened to shoot the clerk during the robbery. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. There were no injuries in the incident.

While conducting the investigation, Birmingham PD investigators received information that the suspect was taken into custody by Bessemer Police at 736 Academy Drive. He has been identified as 48-year-old James Crenshaw of Birmingham.

Crenshaw has been charged with first-degree robbery and is in the Jefferson County Jail.
