BIRMINGHAM, AL — The cold and wet weather may have been a downer for Birmingham residents this week, but that does not mean people need to stay home this weekend. The city offers plenty of activities over the next few days.

Whether you are looking for sports, theater, family activities or music, chances are good that you can find something fun to do in the Magic City yhris weekend. Here are just a few events happening in the metro area this weekend:

Friday, Jan. 24

"Picnic" by William Inge; Birmingham Festival Theatre, 7:30 p.m.: This play takes place on Labor Day weekend in the joint backyards of two widows. One house belongs to Flo Owens, who lives there with her two daughters, Madge and Millie, and a schoolteacher boarder. The other house belongs to Helen Potts, who lives with her elderly and invalid mother. Into this female atmosphere comes a young man named Hal Carter, whose animal vitality seriously upsets the entire group.

Alabama Dance Festival; Dorothy Jemison Day Theatre, 8 p.m.: Announcing an exciting new aspect to the Alabama Dance Festival, the Alabama Screendance Festival.

Birmingham-Southern Men's Basketball vs. Berry College; Birmingham-Southern College, 8 p.m.: Come out and see the Panthers take on Berry College in a home match-up.

Saturday, Jan. 25

2020 Birmingham Chinese New Year Festival; Boutwell Auditorium, 11 a.m.: The Birmingham Chinese New Year Festival features games, activities, music games and food, all celebrating Chinese culture.

Birmingham Boat Show; BJCC, 11 a.m.: The Birmingham Boat Show is the oldest and largest in the state of Alabama. With more than 250,000 square feet, the show highlights the latest in boats, motors, fishing gear, guides, outfitters and related outdoor gear.

UAB Men's Basketball vs Louisiana Tech; Bartow Arena, 2 p.m.: Come cheer on the Blazers as they take on Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech.

Sunday, Jan. 26

Alabama Dance Festival Showcase; Alabama School of Fine Arts, 2:30 p.m.: The Alabama Dance Festival Showcase rounds out the Festival weekend with performances by schools, studios, companies and colleges across the region.

Todd Snider; Iron City; 8 p.m.: Enjoy a live performance of Memphis singer/songwriter Todd Snider, as he shares his a musical style that combines Americana, alt-country, and folk.

Andrew Schulz; Stardome Comedy Club, 6:30 p.m.: Catch this live performance of New York comedian Andrew Shultz, known for his work on Guy Code, The Brilliant Idiots podcast and the Amazon original series Sneaky Pete.
