BIRMINGHAM, AL — Although some rain is expected Friday, the weekend will be mostly fair and dry, which means plenty of opportunities to get out and about in the Birmingham metro. From children's events and activities to live music and theater, the weekend is full of events to attend.

Here are just a few of the happenings in the Birmikngham metro this weekend:

Friday, Jan. 31

Kami-Con Season 12; BLCC Exhibition Hall, Fri.-Sun. noon - 5 p.m.: Kami-Con is Alabama's largest Anime and Gaming Comic Con. The show has an expanding vendors room filled with interesting "Nerdy" goods. A Japanese arcade, Video game tornaments with cash prizes. We have table top gaming, fan made panels, and major shows, performances, and concerts during the later times.

Birmingham on Rails; McWane Center, 8:30 a.m.: Birmingham on Rails is a forward thinking Ruby on Rails conference with the purpose of building a network of software professionals and educating them on the latest developments and uses of the Rails platform.

All Night Long Gaming Lock-In; ePlex, Edge Shopping Center, Crestwood, 10 p.m.: Enjoy 9 hours of gaming, tournaments and epic fun, including pizza, soft drinks and more.

Saturday, Feb. 1

In Their Footsteps Civil Rights Tour; Vulcan Park and Museum, 9 a.m.: Guest will be on a 4 hour tour walking in the same space as those that pioneered the Civil Rights era. Guests will travel on a luxury tour bus and have lunch at the end of the tour.

The Market at Pepper Place; Pepper Place, 2nd Ave. South, 7 a.m.: Don't miss Birmingham's premier farmer's market at Pepper Place from 7 a.m. until noon.

CASC Birmingham Gun Show; Findley Center at the Hoover Met, 9 a.m.: This Hoover gun show is held at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium and hosted by Collectors and Shooters Company.

Sunday, Feb 2

Winter Wake-Up: A Hibernation Celebration; Birmingham Zoo, 9 a.m.: Birmingham's resident groundhog, Birmingham Bill, is still hibernating, so for Groundhog Day, the Birmingham Zoo will allow its owls to predict the coming of spring. The event includes live animal shows and learning opportunities for kids.

The Minks w/ Chrome Pony & The Boquet; Avondale Brewing Co., 8 p.m.: See a live performance by The Minks, Nashville's “psychedelic-bloos” band.

Saturn Super Bowl Extravaganza; Saturn, 5 p.m.: Watch the Super Bowl with free food, snacks, fun, general mayhem and a contest to win a pass to free shows for a year for whoever has the closest guess of the game's final score.
