BIRMINGHAM, AL — We all know that college football season means a significant number of people in the Birmingham area have plans at least for a few hours on Saturdays. But what if you are looking for something else to do?

There are plenty of events happening in the Birmingham area the weekend of Sept. 6-8 if you look in the right places. Here are just a few of the events going on this weekend in and around Birmingham:

Artwalk: This two-day art festival in downtown Birmingham features more than 100 artists showcasing art through a variety of media. Painting, pottery, woodwork and metal arts are all on display throughout the downtown area Sept. 6-7. People of all ages can enjoy being downtown at a safe, family-friendly, community event. Saturday afternoon caters more to the family crowd with special children’s activities, with the Artwalk KidZone on Morris Avenue from 10am to 6pm, where you can create your own "make and take" arts and craft activity.

Taste of Five Points: The Five Points Alliance will host its 3rd annual "Taste of Five Points" on Sunday, September 8th from 12 – 4 pm at Brother Bryan Park in the heart of Five Points South. The event will bring together residents and visitors in a celebration of food and culture that will showcase the revitalization of the Five Points neighborhood. Tickets start at $35.

LJCC Jewish Food & Culture Festival: The Friedman Family Foundation Jewish Food and Culture Fest is on Sunday, September 8 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Levite Jewish Community Center. The event features the When Pigs Fly Kosher BBQ Cook-Off and is a fun, free, family-friendly celebration that’s open to the entire community. There is food available for purchase, live music, kids activities and so much more.

Saturday Football Tailgate: Avondale Brewery is hosting football fans of all ages with multiple tv's showing UAB v. Akron at 11 a.m., New Mexico State v. Alabama at 3 p.m. and Tulane v. Auburn at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Reggae Block Party: This free event Sunday begins at 4 p.m. and lasts until you are ready to go home. Located at Chaser's Sports Grill at 815 24th Street North, the event features Trini Fresh, Dj Lion The Turntablebandit & Rich Muzic On the 1's & 2's playing the best in reggae, soca and Afrobeats.
