Where To Find The Best Doughnuts In Town

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Whether it is spelled doughnut or donut or do-nut, the tasty pastry is a favorite among children and adults alike. Whether it is for dessert, breakfast or a late night snack, doughnuts 192 million people in the United States last year consumed at least one doughnut.

According to the Smithsonian, doughnuts in some form or other have been around so long that archaeologists keep turning up fossilized bits of what look like doughnuts in the middens of prehistoric Native American settlements.

However, the doughnut as we know it today supposedly came to Manhattan under the Dutch name of olykoeks, which means “oily cakes.”

The Birmingham metro has hundreds of places to find a doughnut - grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries and even truck stops offer doughnuts - but where are the best in the area?
