- World Games 2022 Birmingham is hosting an art poster design contest for Alabama students. It is for students in grades 9-12, and the deadline for submissions is Jan. 31. Those who win first place will have their art turned into memorabilia that can be purchased during The Games. (Alabama's News Leader)
- Faith Chapel and Greater Birmingham Ministries are partnering to offer utility assistance to those in need. They've established a fund of $25,000 for low-income families to pay power, water, sewer, and heating bills. (WBRC)
- The Birmingham Zoo Fundraising campaign was wildly successful. They raised over $113,000 for its Emergency Animal Fund. The money will provide food and essential care for more than 550 animals, including many endangered species. (Over the Mountain Journal)

- In honor of Betty White, and her work on behalf of abused, neglected, and abandoned animals, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society is grateful to join in the #BettyWhiteChallenge! Birmingham-based Books-A-Million is also participating in the challenge by graciously donating a portion of all Betty White books and merchandise sold now until Jan. 17, what would have been the legendary actress's 100th birthday, to the shelter pets at GBHS. - The World Games 2022 Birmingham has partnered with four Birmingham businesses to host a poster design contest for Alabama students in grades 9-12. There are three themes and nine opportunities to win. First-place winners will have their art turned into memorabilia for purchase during The Games. (Facebook)
- The Birmingham Public Library is hosting its 19th annual MLK Memorial Lecture next Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. Dr. Teneasha Washington, an assistant professor at UAB's Department of Public Health, will discuss Black Maternal Health issues. (Facebook)
