• Black Warrior Riverkeeper Settles Permit Appeal Over Brookwood Mine (patch.com) — A pollution permit settlement for the Swann’s Crossing coal mine in Brookwood will restore strict limits on dissolved solids flowing into Daniel Creek, which feeds the Black Warrior River. The agreement between Black Warrior Riverkeeper, Southland Resources, and ADEM means some mine outfalls will be eliminated and parts of the site reclaimed, aiming to better protect local waterways already stressed by past coal mining.
