1 Dead, 1 Injured In Jefferson County Shooting, Car Crash

Investigators say shots were fired at a vehicle in Jefferson County, causing it to crash. One fatality was reported.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — One person is dead and another is injured after shots were fired at a vehicle in Jefferson County Friday. The incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Eastern Valley Road near Bessemer.

Sgt. Joni Money said deputies were called to the scene after a report of shots fired, and found that the shooting caused a car crash. A female victim was found with injuries from the crash, and a male victim, identified as 23-year-old Derrious Tyrell Scott, was found with gunshot wounds.

Scott was pronounced dead on the scene.

Money said witness reports indicate that shots were fired at the victims' vehicle by the occupants of another vehicle, causing the victims' vehicle to crash into the side of a home. No one in the home was injured, Money said.
