20-Year-Old Suspect Sought In Bessemer Killing
Law enforcement has identified a suspect in an Oct. 12 homicide in Bessemer.

BESSEMER, AL — Law enforcement has identified a suspect in the October 12 killing of 25-year-old Christon Lewis in Bessemer.
A murder warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Kalan Phillips. Bessemer police and fire medics responded the morning of Oct. 12 to 28th Street and 11th Avenue. When they arrived on the scene, they found Lewis wounded by gunfire, according to an Alabama Media Group report.
Lewis was reportedly in a vehicle when he stopped and was involved in a confrontation that resulted in the shooting. He was taken to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m.

Phillips remains at large, and police are actively searching for him. Anyone with information on his whereabouts or the deadly shooting is asked to call Bessemer police at 205-425-2411 or the Tip Line at 205-428-3541.
