Bessemer Water Main Break Causes Outages Near Ross Bridge

Officials urge local residents to use water 'judiciously' until water main break near Ross Bridge can be repaired.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A water main break has caused water outages in Bessemer and some surrounding areas, and while crews work to repair the main, officials have said residents who do have water service in the area will need to use water 'judicously' through the weekend. All customers were expected to have their service restored by Tuesday morning, but some outages have still been reported.

A Twitter post from ABC 33/40 reporter Stephen Quinn said, "City official in Bessemer says there are still some water outages in Ross Bridge area while tanks refill. No ETA yet on when it’s restored."

An ABC 33/40 report said the saddle which covered the hole in the broken water main failed on Saturday according to city officials. On Monday, engineers were working to cut out and replace a 10-foot section of the pipe. In a statement released Monday evening, Bessemer city engineer Ron Gilbert said customers were expected to start seeing water service resume throughout the evening and into the overnight.
