Brothers Arrested In Hoover Vehicle Burglary Cases

Two men are in custody after being charged with breaking into several vehicles parked outside of Riverchase businesses.

HOOVER, AL — A pair of brothers is in custody and charged with multiple counts of breaking into vehicles in Hoover. The arrests were made Thursday morning.

Hoover police said Thomas Lewis Sanford Jr., 58, and Michael Shawn Sanford, 44, are each charged with breaking into several vehicles parked outside of businesses off Riverchase Parkway East.

On January 16, Hoover Police responded to three separate businesses after employees discovered several work vehicles were burglarized overnight. The suspects forced entry into the vehicles and removed tools and other equipment, police said.

Detectives obtained surveillance footage of the suspects and they were identified by other officers that recognized them from past encounters. Further investigation revealed that the suspects sold several tools and other items to a pawnshop and a scrap metal dealer.

Both suspects were arrested by Hoover Police this morning in the 5000 block of Kiska Avenue in Birmingham and transported to the Hoover City Jail and will eventually be transferred to the Shelby County Jail.
