Fatal Traffic Crash Under Investigation By Hoover PD

A crash Sunday night claimed the life of a 72-year-old man, and has left another victim hospitalized.

HOOVER, AL — A fatal car crash is under investigation by the Hoover Police Department. The incident occurred Sunday night just after 8 p.m.

Hoover PD and Hoover Fire responded to I-459 South near mile marker 11 on a report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived to find a 2016 burgundy Toyota Camry that left the roadway and struck a tree, according to a HPD report.

Both occupants were transported to U.A.B. hospital with serious injuries. The driver, 72-year-old Tommie James Riley of Shorter, Alabama, was pronounced deceased upon arrival. A female passenger remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Hoover Police Traffic Investigators are investigating this crash to determine its cause. According to witnesses, a white S.U.V. may have contacted the victim’s vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway.
