Game of The Week: Hoover Trounces Pinson Valley On ESPN
Hoover cruised to a 52-14 victory over Pinson Valley in the battle between defending state champs.

HOOVER, AL - The clash between the defending 7A state champions and defending 6A state champions was less of a clash than it was a run and chase. Hoover led the game the entire way en route to a 52-14 thrashing of Pinson Valley in front of a packed house at the Hoover Met and a national television audience on ESPN.
Hoover opened with a 14-0 lead, with Auburn commit George Pickens hauling in a long TD pass and completed it with a beautiful run. However, Pinson Valley QB Bo Nix - also an Auburn commit - drove the Indians down the field for a touchdown drive of their own to close the gap. While that should have built confidence on the Pinson Valley side, that confidence was short-lived, Hoover's Larry McCammon returned the subsequent kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
The Bucs never looked back, as Hoover quarterback Robby Ashford, making his first start for the Bucs, threw four TD passes - all 28 yards or longer - and finished 20-for-29 passing for 373 yards.
