HOOVER, AL — The holiday shopping season is great for local commerce, but also often brings an added criminal element to commercial areas. This is why the Hoover Police Department is adding to its number of on-duty police officers this month.

Hoover police said additional officers were on duty starting Thanksgiving day as stores began opening for business. These officers will operate out of the Hoover Police Mobile Command Center, which will be parked in the Costco parking lot off of Galleria Boulevard.

In addition to providing security inside the Riverchase Galleria, officers will also have an increased presence in our other retail shopping centers, according to the Hoover PD report.

"If traffic becomes congested in these areas, officers will be able to make manual adjustments to the traffic flow in an effort to keep people moving to their destinations," police said. "Additional officers will be tasked with patrolling parking lots and having a visible presence inside stores to ensure the safety and security of shoppers."
